Top 5 Tips for Arizona

Planning a trip to Arizona? Here are my top five tips to help you make the most of your visit.

From red rock canyons to towering saguaros, Arizona is full of incredible natural scenery and unique experiences. A bit of planning goes a long way for a comfortable visit, so these are my top five tips to help you make the most of your trip.

1. Plan Around the Weather

Spring (March โ€“ May) and fall (September โ€“ November) are the best times to visit for mild temperatures. Even in those seasons, afternoons can get hot, so plan outdoor activities early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the heat.

2. Book Antelope Canyon Tours in Advance

Antelope Canyon tours fill up quickly, especially the Upper Canyon tours during late morning times from May to September. When we tried to book for my husbandโ€™s parents a few weeks before their trip, the Upper Canyon tours were already sold out and we could only book Lower Canyon tours. Make sure to book well in advance to get your preferred time slot.

3. Use a National Park Pass

If you plan to visit multiple parks like Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, and Saguaro, itโ€™s worth buying the America the Beautiful National Park Pass ($80 per year). It covers entrance fees for everyone in your vehicle (up to four adults) at all U.S. national parks and can save both money and time at the gate.

4. Stay Hydrated and Bring Sun Protection

Arizonaโ€™s desert air is extremely dry, so itโ€™s easy to get dehydrated without realizing it. Always carry water, wear sunscreen, and pack a hat and sunglasses. Moisturizer and lip balm are also useful against the dryness.

5. Dress in Layers

Even though Arizona is known for its heat, desert temperatures can drop quickly at night especially in places like Flagstaff and Page. Pack layers so you can stay comfortable from hot afternoons to chilly evenings.
