London is one of the worldโs most visited cities. There are so much to see and do, so it helps to be prepared. Having been there a few times, Iโve found a few things that make exploring easier and more fun. Here are my top travel tips for first-time visitors to London.
1. Be Ready for Rain
The weather in London changes fast, so itโs best to be ready for rain at all times with an umbrella or rain jacket. The first time I visited in May, it rained almost every day!
2. Book Popular Attractions in Advance
Since London is a top tourist destination, tickets to places like Buckingham Palace or the Churchill War Rooms often sell out. Book online in advance to secure your spot and skip long queues.
3. Try the Local Markets
Londonโs food markets are some of the best ways to sample local eats and international flavors. Check out Borough Market for fresh British produce, and Camden Market for fun street food. Donโt miss the fish & chips or an afternoon tea set while youโre there!
4. Check Out the Free Museums
London has many world-class free museums, like the British Museum for history and the National Gallery for art. Theyโre not only filled with fascinating exhibits but also perfect places to spend a rainy day. Just note that some popular museums now require timed entry tickets, so itโs best to book in advance.
5. Join a Walking Tour
Walking tours are one of the best introductions to Londonโs history and neighborhoods. We joined a free walking tour and a Harry Potter walking tour, and learned so much from both.
