Top 5 Tips for Thailand

Planning a trip to Thailand? Here are 5 essential travel tips to help you experience the best of this amazing country.

From golden temples and beaches to vibrant cities and bustling night markets, Thailand is full of culture and adventure. Here are my top 5 tips to help you make the most of your visit.

1. Dress Respectfully at Temples

Thailand has thousands of stunning temples, but most major ones have strict dress codes. Youโ€™ll need to cover your shoulders and knees and remove your shoes before entering indoor temple areas. Wear lightweight, breathable clothing that keeps you cool while showing respect.

2. Try a Thai Massage

Thai massage is an ancient healing practice that combines acupressure, stretching, and assisted yoga poses to relieve tension. Itโ€™s the perfect way to unwind after a long day exploring. Youโ€™ll find massage places everywhere, and theyโ€™re so affordable that we ended up getting several during our trip!

3. Visit the Night Markets

Night markets are a huge part of Thai culture. Theyโ€™re lively, colorful, and full of amazing street food and local finds. Some markets arenโ€™t open daily, so check before you go. We timed our visit to Chiang Mai so we could experience the Sunday Walking Street Market, one of Thailandโ€™s biggest and best. I picked up personalized passport holders, beautiful soap carvings, and the classic elephant pants from there.

4. Cash Is Still King

Even though digital payments are growing, many small shops and food stalls still take cash only. Small bills are especially helpful if youโ€™re visiting the night markets.

5. Check Out the Malls

Thailandโ€™s malls arenโ€™t just for shopping โ€” theyโ€™re where locals hang out, eat, and escape the heat. Youโ€™ll find world-class architecture, creative food courts, and everything from luxury brands to tiny craft stalls under one roof. I only had time to check out one mall, so I picked Terminal 21 in Bangkok because itโ€™s an airport-themed mall where each floor represents a different city. It ended up being such a unique experience that I will definitely go back to visit the other malls!
