The UAE is a fascinating mix of modern skyscrapers, desert landscapes, and cultural traditions. Thereโs a lot to experience, but a few practical tips can make your visit even better. Here are my top five tips to help you prepare for your trip to the UAE.
1. Visit Between November and March
November to March is Dubaiโs cooler season, with pleasant temperatures perfect for exploring outdoors. If you want major discounts, visit during the Dubai Shopping Festival (December โ January). Avoid June – September if possible, as daytime highs can exceed 110ยฐF (43ยฐC) and humidity is intense.
2. Stay Hydrated and Protect from the Sun
The desert climate is harsh, so drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen, and carry sunglasses and a hat. Even short walks can feel draining in the heat.
3. Dress Modestly in Public
Dubai is modern but still part of a Muslim country. Mosques and government buildings have strict dress codes, but even in malls and public areas, itโs respectful to cover your shoulders and knees.
4. Enjoy the Fruit Juices
Alcohol is only served in licensed venues like hotels or bars, so restaurants offer plenty of non-alcoholic drinks. This was perfect for someone like me who doesnโt drink and loves fruit. My favorite was the fresh mango juices that were everywhere and delicious!
5. Wear Comfortable Shoes for Malls
The malls in Dubai are huge! We got lost multiple times in the Dubai Mall. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes as there will be a lot of walking inside the mall!
